BUSINESS STUDIES GCSE
“The secret of business is to know something that nobody else knows.” -Aristotle Onassis
Our aim is for students to develop an in depth knowledge of a range of business concepts, including marketing, finance, managing people and operations management.
We want students to understand business beyond the text book – looking at the aims and objectives of a business, which do not always include profit, and how they impact upon their stakeholders – including you! An understanding of the wider business environment and the various factors that influence a business’s performance is also vital when making sense of the world we live in.
Practical tools for the real world are also important. Learning how to conduct effective market research, evaluating a promotional mix, producing accounting reports and analysing a business’s financial performance are just some of skills to be developed to equip our students for life in business. Budding entrepreneurs need look no further!
Courses Offered & Unit Work
The GCSE is units 1(3.1), unit 2 (3.2) and unit 3 (3.3).
At GCSE students undertake 3 units of study during the two year course. Unit 1 considers all the aspects of setting up a business. Unit 2 extends their knowledge and understanding by investigating how a business grows. Unit 3 is a controlled assessment which will test the students’ research and planning skills as they investigate a local business, getting the chance to meet real entrepreneurs – learning from their successes and failures.
The Dragon’s Den awaits.
