Do you want to help change the lives of vulnerable people? Do you want to work in the caring profession?

In Health and Social Care at DCHS we want you to develop a caring nature alongside an understanding of roles and responsibilities within the caring profession. We want you to develop your skills of communication and enquiry, as well as understanding the importance of working in a team.

This subject prepares you for the world of work within health and social care, such as nursing, midwifery, social work or teaching. It is designed to provide you with the skills required to become a confident, knowledgeable and understanding member of the health care profession.

Department Highlights

We ensure that you will participate in a range of activities on the course, such as visits to Residential Care Homes in Alnwick, working with local early yeatrs/ first school settings, attending Discovery Days at Teesside University, becoming a dementia friend, opportunities to work with dementia support group at The Alnwick Gardens and Community NE66 to support youth work. There have also been visits to Percy Hedley Special Needs School in Newcastle, and Chase Park Rehabilitation Centre in Gateshead, to further understanding and allow students to observe and practice Health and Social Care first hand.
