Asymptomatic testing of students
In the latest guidance, schools are instructed to reopen from the 8th March. In order to return to face to face teaching consenting students will have to have provided a negative lateral flow test result. We have to conduct three tests on consenting students on the school site. Following this we are expecting delivery of home test kits the week beginning 8th March and students will then be asked to test twice weekly at home. Further details will follow in due course.
As you can imagine the testing of 1500+ students in a school setting is logistically challenging. Guidance states that until students are tested they cannot be taught in ‘normal’ classrooms without 2m social distancing. Our site is not large enough to ensure 2m social distancing for all students during lesson time therefore testing is essential.
Our initial testing process is therefore planned to start next Wednesday (3rd March), and we would strongly encourage all students to have their first test next week. In order to plan for this, we ask all parents to access the School Gateway (either on the app or on the School Gateway website) navigate to ‘Clubs’ and indicate within the ‘Covid Consent’ area of the page which day they would be able to attend school for a test. We will then contact you with a time slot. (Instructions can be found here for the School Gateway app and here for the School Gateway website)
If a student cannot attend the school site next week for a test but you would still like to consent to testing, please complete a separate consent form.
